Young Adults & Families
I have a passion working with young adults and parents. Teens see me as a confidant and mentor not as an authoritative adult. I still speak 18-year-old fluently living with two teens in my household. I’ve spent the last 20 years working with adolescents and creating a safe space where they can contemplate their thoughts, feelings and actions out loud with no judgement or being told what to do. I support and help them in their efforts to change and grow towards their strengths and dreams. I also bring a unique background with over 24 years of professional experience counselling adolescents in various settings including young adults at the high-school and university level.
As a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, CBT focuses on the way people think ("cognitive") and act ("behavioural"). The concept behind CBT is that our thoughts about a situation affect how we feel (emotionally and physically) and how we behave in that situation. I treat a wide variety of issues, including anxiety, depression and mood disorders, relationship difficulties, adjustment problems and life transitions, stress management, family conflict, and communication difficulties. I am well versed in several counseling techniques including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Transdiagnostic Behaviour Therapy (TBT). Currently a Graduate Student at McMaster, in the Cognitive Behavioural Sciences Program.
I am very passionate for improving the lives of others within my own community, where I have worked and volunteered with women’s shelters, teen parents, abused children, suicide prevention and families in crisis for the past 20 years. I take great pride in calling myself a CBT therapist and wholeheartedly love the work I do. Whatever is holding you back, now is the time to move beyond that limitation. You have the power to change your life, you just need to know how.
